
Jane Cooney
Jane Cooney is Founder of Books for Business, a retail, mail order and consulting company.
Prior to starting Books for Business, she served as Executive Director of the Canadian Library Association in Ottawa, Vice-President and Director of Information Services, Bank Marketing Association in Chicago and for 14 years at the CIBC where she was manager of the bank’s information resources worldwide.
Ms. Cooney has served on the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto, teaching courses in business literature, Canadian government publishing, and the management of corporate information services.
Ms. Cooney has received a number of professional awards including the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information Studies Alumni Jubilee Award, its Arbor Award for volunteer service, and the Canadian Booksellers Association Bookseller of the Year award. She has headed or been involved in several professional associations including the Canadian Booksellers Association, and the Canadian Library Association.
On the volunteer side, Ms. Cooney has chaired the Ontario Retail Sector Advisory Board, and is currently the Advisory Board Member of the National Research Council's Canada Institute for Scientific & Technical Information. She is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information Studies, and has acted as Chair for Canada Book Day, from 2001 to 2003. Ms. Cooney is also a director for Writers Trust of Canada and Toronto's Providence Centre.
